KDB warns vendors over unhygienic milk hawking

Vendors selling adulterated milk in Migori County risk arrest and prosecution, according to the Kenya Dairy Board (KDB).

A KDB Inspector, Jonson Makomere, said some unscrupulous vendors interfere with the quality of milk by adding water and other substances that can be harmful to human health.

Speaking in Rongo town on Thursday, Makomere said security measures will be put in place to ensure those who adulterate milk for higher profit are eliminated.

He asked milk vendors in Nyanza South region to adhere to high hygienic standards.

The official also advised those selling milk to seek trading licences from the KDB offices in the region to enable them trade without fear of being arrested.

He asked farmers in Migori, Homa Bay, Kisii and Nyamira to attend livestock meetings to gain knowledge on the best livestock husbandry for higher yields.
