The Maasai community in Kajiado County have voiced their joy and satisfaction after the immediate former Director of Public Prosecutions, Keriako Tobiko was nominated into Cabinet on Friday.
The nomination of the immediate former Director of Public Prosecution for a cabinet secretary position has been positively received across the county.
Tobiko is among senior government officers from the region who is greatly respected by the community.
The Governor Joseph Lenku while speaking at his Lenkisim home on Saturday thanked the president for remembering the people of Kajiado after they backed Jubilee party in the last general elections.
Lenku made his remarks immediately after receiving the news of the nominations, saying the president had picked one of the most hardworking persons into a cabinet position.
Nomination of Tobiko, who is a long serving government officer, is a big honour to the Maasai community in Kajiado County, said Lenku. Tobiko is well qualified for a position in the cabinet, added the Governor.
The Kajiado Governor noted that the President had picked a strong team in the first batch of nominations, saying it is a clear indication that the new team shall be different.
The Kajiado West Member of Parliament, George Sunkuyia who was at the home of the governor, reiterated that the President had picked the right man for a cabinet position despite massive lobbying by some individuals.
For the last nine years Kajiado has held the coveted position of Interior CS position that appeared to have slipped their fingers after the death of Joseph Nkaissery but we are now happy that the Jubilee administration has remembered us this time round, said Sunkuyia.
The leaders were speaking in Lenkisim village during a remembrance ceremony of governor Lenku’s father, Lenku ole Mpaa, who died three years ago.
Similarly, former Kajiado West MP, Moses Sakuda, in a separate statement said he is overwhelmed by the President’s decision to have one of his own in the cabinet, adding that Kajiado Maasai voted overwhelmingly supported Jubilee party.
Elsewhere, in Mashuuru town, where Tobiko was born and bred the locals celebrated his nomination into the cabinet.
The immediate former DPP, who hails from Kajiado County is a lawyer who previously served as a commissioner on the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission.
The newly nominated CS from Kajiado is also the brother of Kajiado East MP, Peris Tobiko.
