Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, Senator Hassan Omar and Nyali MP Hezron Awiti met for the first time in months when they had lunch aboard the Turkish flagship TCG Gemlik on Tuesday.

The three, who have disagreements, had all been invited by the ship’s captain and commander Rear Admiral Ayhan Bay.

The three sat at the same table. It is not clear what they discussed. However, the Star has established the three did not engage in politics.

Omar and Joho have not been seen together in public for almost a year. Awiti and Joho sat next to each other.

The two have had political differences since Awiti beat Joho’s ally John Mcharo to the Nyali parliamentary seat.

“We were called for lunch only. There was no politics,” Nyali MP said told the Star on the phone yesterday. “I had to ensure I respect Captain Bay and avoid politics at all costs,” Awiti said. Changamwe MP Omar Mwinyi said Mombasa politicians have no personal differences.
