Isiolo-based ex-AP officer, suspected of murdering his wife, surrenders to Voi police

An ex-Administration Police (AP) officer who is claimed to have shot and murdered his wife in Isiolo County two years ago has surrendered to Voi police station.

The suspect, Mohammed Abdulahi, is said to have shot his youngest wife at an AP camp in Isiolo in 2016 before fleeing with his rifle. He would later abandon his rifle with family members in Nairobi and go underground.

Sources in Voi police station said the ex-sergeant had on Tuesday noon walked into the police station, introduced himself and requested to be booked over the committed crime.

He was promptly booked and detained as efforts to transfer him to Isiolo County got underway. Reports claims that the man has been living in Kalolenyi village in outskirts of Voi town for the last several months after earlier hiding in Namanga and Mombasa.

The suspect claimed he was tired of running and hiding from the police.

Speaking to KNA, Voi OCPD Joseph Chesire confirmed the surrender and said officers handling the case were working closely with their counterparts in Isiolo to facilitate the transfer of the suspect.

He added that the suspect appeared remorseful and was cooperating with the police.

He is cooperating with us and we are now working on how to transfer him to Isiolo County where he will be charged, he said.

The ex-police officer is said to have been based at Wabera AP camp in Isiolo County where he had shot his wife in the chest over a domestic dispute. He had promptly fled the scene as police in the region launched a massive manhunt.
