One person died while 12 houses were reduced to ashes following a fierce inter community clash at Kipsombe village in Soy Sub County along the Uasin Gishu and Kakamega counties.
According to eye witnesses, the Tuesday night incident was sparked by a love triangle where an estranged boyfriend stormed a house two lovebirds were consummating their relationship with intend to teach the snatcher a lesson.
The clash left one victim with serious injuries and efforts to save his life were fruitless as he was pronounced dead upon arrival at Soy Sub County Hospital where he had been rushed by Samaritans.
The suspect and his accomplice were arrested and are in custody at Soy Police Station where they are assisting security organs with investigations into the occurrence.
Despite the duo having been apprehended, reports indicate that the deceased family relatives stormed the homestead at about 11pm of the same night before torching her houses.
The enraged protestors, while engaging in song and dance of chanting war songs, proceeded and torched other eight houses. Besides razing the houses, the mob vandalized and stole property worth millions of shillings.
Affected families have expressed fear for their lives and are now appealing for immediate intervention from both the national and Uasin Gishu county governments.
Addressing a security meeting at the scene, Soy Deputy County Commissioner on Wednesday, Mr Hassan Ali Bule, urged members from the
two communities to continue coexisting in order to foster peace that has always prevailed in the region for many years.
Individual mistakes or crime should not be converted into a communal affair, cautioned Bule, who reiterated the government would subdue any ill motives aimed at displacing people from their legally acquired land.
