A rescue and rehabilitation center for the sexually abused children in Naivasha has been closed down after it was flooded exposing the minors to health hazards.
The Catholic-run St Theresa rehabilitation and development center located off Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road was forced to send the more than 100 children home following the floods that left a trail of destruction at the institution.
The center manager Innocent Kibugu said the rains started over the weekend and continued for three days, totally paralyzing operations at the facility.
He said that the floods water flowed into Total Health Clinic that is located within the facility destroying medical equipment and medicines worth millions of shillings.
Kibugu added that the main road that leads to the facility had also been washed away by the floods cutting off the busy center from the main road.
It is unfortunate that we have to send the children home as many of them are still traumatized by the abuse while their abusers are still roaming freely, he said.
He however said the center administration has approached area MP Jane Kihara for support while engaging KENHA to help ensure that the center is accessible. The facility is very crucial as hundreds of abused minors had been rehabilitated and taken back to the community free of charge, he emphasized.
