Illegal foreigners arrested hiding under Bridge

Police in Marsabit have arrested five suspected aliens at Segel area for being in the country illegally.

Marsabit Central OCPD, Mark Wanjala said the five, all men are from neighbouring Ethiopia and were nabbed hiding under a Bridge at Segel.

Wanjala said the police were tipped off by members of the public in the spirit of community policing that some strange persons had been dropped at the bridge by a lorry that is yet to be identified.

The OCPD said the foreigners were arrested as they made efforts to secure transport to Nairobi or Marsabit town in search of employment.

Wanjala said the suspects who were dropped at the scene at around 6 am and who are aged between 20 and 25 years do not understand both English and Kiswahili.

Thanking members of the public for their support in the fight against crime, Wanjala urged residents to uphold the spirit which he said guarantees them of their safety and that of the country.

He added that investigations have been launched to establish the vehicle that ferried the illegal aliens and cautioned motorist against transporting foreigners with no valid travel documents.

The suspects told KNA that they had come to Kenya in search of jobs and refuted claims that they were en-route to South Africa.
