Residents of Katine and Ngomeni villages in Matungulu, Machakos County have been urged to be careful as there were stray hyenas roaming the areas.
The Katine sub Chief, Timothy Musau said the hyenas, which were on the loose, could strike anytime.
Musau spoke at a public baraza in Ngolemi Catholic Church in Tala on Wednesday.
Locals should guard their livestock and children to avoid being attacked by the beasts, Musau said.
The administrator said the hyenas broke out of their caves after heavy rains pounded the sub county flooding the caves.
Musau told the residents to construct strong structures which could accommodate their livestock to protect them from the hyenas.
He said the animals had devoured three sheep and attacked a calf.
