Students from Hillcrest International Schools have qualified to compete in the Hickstead Inter-school Show Jumping Championships at the prestigious All England Jumping show ground. This is the first time a Kenyan school has qualified for the high-stakes equestrian competition. Student representatives Ornella Hutchinson (15 years), Emma Carter (15 years), Coral Hays (16 years) and Kate Smit (17 years) will represent Hillcrest School and the country at the competition.
“We are all pretty excited and nervous at the same time about the competition, but we’ve trained hard to get to where we are and hope to win,” described Kate Smit. Manager Georgie Wheeler alongside trainer John Thelwall will be training with the selected riders ahead of the rigorous competition on August 6th. Travel Company Abercrombie and Kent have sponsored the four girls who have earned the opportunity to battle it out in the famed International Arena. Hickstead has been host to top international riders including the Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, supermodel Jodie Kidd and other well known equestrian enthusiasts.
