Ministry of Health has Monday launched key documents and tools that have been developed to aid in delivering performance reports detailing progress against targets.
This will strengthen health sector policy dialogue processes and information sharing hence assist in solving problems in the matters of health.
Speaking during the launch of Kenya Health Forum (KHF), Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki said there was need to address major issues that have affected provision of quality health services.
We need to pay attention to each health system building block, and identify the critical drivers that will rejuvenate our health systems to respond to the need of Kenyans, she said
The CS vowed to ensure change in the health sector so as to make Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for all a reality.
We are fully committed to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of ensuring healthy lives and Universal Health Coverage for all, said Kariuki
Kariuki said that the Forum will bring stakeholders together from the health partner constituencies to take stock of progress made and challenges in addressing the health sector.
This Forum offers an opportunity to share best practices and innovations emerging from health sector that aid in steering achievements of set goals, the CS added.
Kariuki clarified that the government will continue to focus on improving the scope and quality of health services available to the population while reducing financial risks associated with the use of essential services.
Meanwhile Kariuki said the government was expecting 100 medical specialists from Cuba who will improve the country’s health sector with skills
Foreign doctors from Cuba will be here for two years and assist in training the medical expatriates in all 47 counties, said Kariuki.
She however clarified that approximately 1000 unemployed doctors are yet to be employed soon and that the government was going to employ them.
Health Sector Specialist Khama Rogo urged private and public health sectors to come together in order to make universal health care a reality.
The three day Health forum is an annual event that brings together stakeholders to take stock of progress made, discuss issues and challenges as well as best practices and innovations emerging from the sector that can aid in achievement of SDGs.
The Theme for 2018 is Accelerating progress towards realisation of Universal Coverage in Kenya.
