One person died while six others sustained injuries when two government vehicles collided head on at Ramatarobi, Chalbi area in Marsabit North Sub-County.
The Marsabit North OCPD, Ali Ndiema said the Thursday night accident claimed the life of the Headteacher of Kalacha Nomadic primary school, Sora Duba aged 55.
Ndiema said the fatal accident on the Marsabit-Maikona-North Horr road left an administration police officer who was traveling home on leave and five other passengers in the two vehicles with serious injuries.
The OCPD said that the head teacher succumbed to injuries due to lack of immediate medical attention because the accident occurred in a remote area about 194 kilometers from the nearest health facility.
He said investigations into the incident that involved two GK Land Cruisers belonging to North Horr deputy county commissioner and North Horr CDF have started.
The OCPD added that the vehicle attached to DCC North Horr was travelling from Marsabit Town to Dukana while that belonging to local CDF office was headed to Marsabit.
Preliminary reports indicate that the driver of the DCC vehicle mistook the other vehicle for a motorcycle as it had only a single head light, said Ndiema.
The police rushed the injured to Marsabit county referral hospital for treatment while the body of the deceased was removed to the same hospital’s mortuary for postmortem.
The two vehicles were extensively damaged.
Following the accident, North Horr ward MCA, Tura Rura called on drivers to always exercise caution in order to avert accidents.
