A hate speech suspect who had been placed on the National police service wanted list was Wednesday arrested outside Kericho town police station.
The suspect identified as Dennis Kiptoo Mutai was on the way to give surrender to police when more than five undercover detectives arrested him.
Mutai’s alleged tweet post caught the eye of Kenyans landing him in trouble after he issued a statement that the country will plunge into anarchy if Deputy President Dr. William Ruto did not ascend to power in 2022.
The investigators escorted Mutai to the station’s Criminal Investigations’ Department where he was interrogated for some time in the presence of his lawyer and former South Rift Law society of Kenya chairman Benard Ngetich.
In an interview with KNA at his office at the Kericho county police headquarters, Kericho county police commander James Mugera said the suspect was in custody at the police station.
Mugera added that the matter was in the hands of National Cohesion and Integration Commission, Nairobi and would thus not comment further.
