Guards should not keep our ID cards at the gate

I wonder where the requirement to surrender national identity cards at the entrance of most business and government premises and buildings in Nairobi and major towns in Kenya came from.

Leaving ID cards at the gates of buildings leaves people vulnerable when they need to identify themselves.

It also increases the risk of loss of ID cards and impersonation.

Security guards should only request visitors to produce their original ID cards for verification of identity, not for safekeeping.
