The Chairman Council of Governors, Josephat Nanok has said the Governors Committee on Mining, Water and Forestry will discuss the new mining policy and the role of counties in enhancing the sector.
Nanok said the committee, made up of about 18 mineral mining counties, will spearhead concerned Counties to get vital information from experts on the mining act, which was established to regulate both solid and liquid minerals.
Nanok, who is also the Turkana Governor said the new mining act provides room for both counties and national government to collaborate so as to share the mineral resources.
Governors attending the forum are Kilifi’s Amason Kingi, Chairman Water Forestry and Mining Committee Chairman and Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi.
He also said other Governors expected are Granton Samboja (Taita Taveta), Migori Governor Okoth Obado, Kwale Governor, Salim Mvurya a nd Isiolo governor, Mohamed Kuti.
Kingi said many Countries in Africa lack peace due to poor management of the resources adding some times the national government licenses mining companies without knowledge of county governments.
