Governor Obado’s personal assistant arraigned in court

Migori County Governor’s Personal Assistant Michael Juma Oyamo was Monday arraigned before a Homa Bay Court but did not take a plea as the prosecution requested for more time to complete investigations.

Oyamo was taken to court at 10am under tight security with only court staff, lawyers and the press allowed in.

In an affidavit sworn by Hassan Siyad, a police officer attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Department, Oyamo was accused of murdering or causing the murder of Sharon Otieno and abduction of Barrack Oduor.

The prosecution, led by Rogers Abisayi, sought to be granted more time by the court to enable them analyse call data and several devices to establish a link between the accused and other suspects still at large.

Abisayi further argued that analysis of DNA samples of the deceased would be ready within four days, call data within three days while analysis of gadgets belonging to the suspects would take two days.

He requested the court for 14 more days to prepare the evidence and arraign all the suspects.

However, the defense counsel led by Ms June Ashioya and Neville Amollo opposed the request arguing that the State already had sufficient time.

Investigations are being conducted in a manner that is not transparent and the conduct of the police has tainted the integrity of the process, Ashioya said.
