Laikipia County governor Ndiritu Muriithi has launched a digital platform dubbed Destination Laikipia where all tourism products for the region would be placed.
While addressing participants at Cedar Mall Nanyuki on Monday, Ndiritu said through the web site, interested individuals and groups would be able to locate hotels, conservancies, ranches, lounges among other amenities.
The website will allow individuals and interested parties to pay for services online or even book for various products, hence the site will make it easier for one to access Laikipia, he observed.
The governor also hailed Laikipia as the best tourist destination in Mt. Kenya region, with sites for corporate retreats, conferences, weekend outings among other services.
He appreciated the online platform, adding that digitization of services was the way to go for easier and efficient services provision.
We must go for innovation and technology for faster development and productivity. For instance, we have launched a mobile application where we are registering families for National Hospital Insurance Fund. We are targeting to register 100% families and already, we have registered 38% of them in the County, he said.
The governor said Laikipia is in a collective approach with Baringo, Isiolo, and Samburu counties through the Amaya Triangle Initiative to promote tourism in the region.
The County Assembly Speaker Patrick Waigwa who was present, said they would continue to support the governor’s manifesto and were ready to make laws to boost tourism in the area.
We will provide relevant legislations to support tourism and help achieve the agenda of the County government, he asserted.
The launch was attended by the County Executive for Tourism and Trade Biwot Tirop and MCA for Thingithu ward Stephen Nderitu who is also chair to the County Assembly Committee on Tourism among other stakeholders.
