A Body of a three year old girl believed to have been defiled was found floating in River Kipkaren, a week after she disappeared from Mukuva village, Munyuki Sub-location, Kakamega County.
The girl, said to have been accompanied by her aunt, Catherine Nekesa, vanished shortly after arrival in the village for a family function on November 10.
Ms. Nekesa who had travelled with the child from the neighbouring Bungoma County assumed that she was playing with other children outside.
As the toddler did not return that day, relatives and neighbours mounted a search for her but their concerted efforts yielded no fruit, said Ms. Nekesa.
However, small boys playing football at Kiwanja Ndege, close to the river on Sunday sighted clothes floating and called a woman, Cheruto Mukonesi, who realised it was a body.
She in turn alerted a community policing member, Kaskon Nyongesa, who reported the incident to Lumakanda Police Station.
The police recovered the body which was found with visual injuries in the genitals and thighs but had not decomposed.
The police suspected that the toddler was hidden somewhere before meeting her death since the body had not begun decomposing. It was carried to Webuye Hospital’s Mortuary for post mortem.
Confirming the incident, Lugari Deputy Police Boss, Anthony Njeru, said that police had launched investigation on the matter, adding that they had lead information.
