Garam Investments Auctioneers on behalf of African Development Bank have advertised the sale of a 66,000 acre Giriama Ranch in Ganze Sub County to recover a Sh.250million borrowed by some individuals.
The sale of the ranch was advertised in one of the local daily newspapers early last week that invited buyers to buy the land in an exercise to take place at Five Eleven Auctioneers offices in Mombasa on August 8.
However, Kilifi North MP, Owen Baya at the weekend moved fast to petition the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission offices in Malindi so that they could investigate the expected auction of Giriama ranch in Ganze Sub County.
In a letter to EACC, Baya said the commission should halt the sale of the expansive 66,000 acre ranch by the auctioneers over a Sh.250 million loan from River Oil Company Limited that was taken by some individuals in September 2017 using the public ranch as security.
Baya, who sits in the committee of lands in Parliament, said that the sale of the property would bring about chaos in Bamba area since the land belongs to thousands of people who were members of Giriama ranch.
The MP said that he had also written to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to investigate the matter and prosecute individuals involved in the fraudulent dealings.
Responding, EACC Malindi Deputy Regional Manager, Alfred Mwachuga said the Commission has received the letter as an official complaint and necessary measures would be taken immediately.
