Garissa Woman Rep Anab Gure has condemned the latest terror attack at the Liboi border point that claimed the lives of five General Service Unit (GSU) officers.
The officers died while three others suffered critical injuries after their truck run over an IED planted on the Harhar and Deg-Elima road in Liboi near the Kenya Somali border.
In a statement posted on her Facebook page, Anab termed the attack as barbaric.
I want to condemn in the strongest terms possible the devious incident in which a GSU vehicle run over an IED in Liboi, Garissa County. Attacking innocent souls especially in this holy month of Ramadhan is un-Islamic and a barbaric act, she added.
Anab condoled with the families and friends of the five gallant soldiers who lost their lives and sent a message of goodwill to those injured during the attack.
She said Islam was a religion of peace and tolerance that held the human soul in high esteem and considered attack against innocent human beings a grave sin.
This is backed by the Qur’anic verse which reads ‘Whosoever kills a human being (as punishment) for (crimes) other than manslaughter or (sowing) corruption on the earth, it shall be as if he has killed all mankind, and whosoever saves the life of one, it shall be as if he had saved the life of all mankind, she added in her statement.
I call upon the security forces to speed up their investigation and flush out the perpetrators from their hideouts and bring them to justice, she said adding, We pray to God to give strength to all those who have suffered during this catastrophe.
The injured officers were airlifted to Nairobi for specialized treatment.
The officers had left their Liboi camp on a normal patrol along the route when their vehicle moved on a landmine at about 8.30am. The truck was extensively damaged.
