The emergence of gambling machines in Bureti Sub County has been blamed for increased criminal activities and soaring poverty levels in the area.
Residents attending a public Baraza on Saturday at Gatarwet chief’s camp lamented that if not checked, gambling would reverse gains made in development as the local youths were now only idling around in pursuit of quick cash, instead of engaging in gainful economic activities.
the Kericho County Commissioner (CC), Abdi Muktar present at the occasion concurred with the residents and immediately directed chiefs and other security agents to crackdown on illegal gambling dens.
Muktar further directed that parents who fail to take care of their children should be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He also said consumption and brewing of illicit brews had impacted negatively on development activities in the area and appealed to Nyumba Kumi committee members to work closely with the relevant authorities in combating the vice.
Muktar who was flanked by the Bureti Deputy County Commissioner, Timothy Nderitu and other senior security officials appealed to the residents of the county to live in harmony with their neighbours.
He advised residents to desist from meddling with the affairs of learning institutions in the region.
On his part, Nderitu urged parents to subdivide their ancestral lands in time to avoid incessant inheritance wrangles being witnessed in the area.
