Fruit processing plant to be set up in Machakos

A Middle East based company is set to establish a fruit processing plant in Machakos County at an estimated cost of Sh 500 million.

In a news release to the media, Machakos Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua said Best Tropical Fruits Company limited will manufacture and distill fruit pulp.

“I am pleased to announce that I have bagged another fruit processing investor for Machakos County,” said Mutua.

The Governor said the company will be able to start construction within the next few months and will also establish a fruit purchasing centre to buy mangoes from farmers.

He said creation of wealth and jobs are critical for any region to develop and that the plant will help secure 150 jobs for the local youth.

Mutua pointed out that it was the duty of all leaders to do whatever it takes to improve the welfare of their people.

He said he had been promised 300 more professional jobs for Machakos youth in the Middle East.

The Governor said his plan was to seek at least 2,000 jobs for the unemployed youth in the County so that their lives are not wasted in joblessness.

Mutua reiterated that when employed, young people are able to secure their future and assist their parents and siblings thus eradicating poverty collectively.

“My heart is with the youth and their parents, they know they can count on me and not on empty talk from politicians,” said Mutua.

This comes barely a week after Mutua announced that the County government in collaboration with a Dubai-based company, CG CORP GLOBAL Company will construct a mega food manufacturing plant in the county.

Mutua is currently on an official tour of the UAE accompanied by the Trade and Industrialization County Executive Committee member Dr. Sunil Dhal, Chief Officers of Lands, and Trade Ms Mwikali Mbole and Sheila Mukunya respectively.
