President Kenyatta’s re-election has received a boost after former West Mugirango MP, Dr. James Gesami defected to the Jubilee party.
Gesami who was a staunch supporter of ODM presidential candidate, Raila Odinga in the run-up to the disputed August 8 election, said he will campaign for Uhuru Kenyatta ahead of the October 26 repeat presidential election.
He was speaking at his home in Borabu on Tuesday, when he hosted a delegation of his supporters from across the county.
Dr. Gesami reiterated the need for residents of Nyamira to support the re-election of Kenyatta, saying he had a development agenda for the area and Kenya at large.
Gesami who has been an ODM MP since 2007 ran for the Nyamira gubernatorial seat as an independent candidate after losing out on the ODM nominations. He garnered over 29,000 votes during August 8 election.
He blamed his former party leader for bungling the party nominations in Nyamira County leading to his loss in the gubernatorial race.
The former assistant minister also faulted Raila for failing to reach out to his former supporters who lost in the general election.
As a leader, Raila should have reached out to me and other disgruntled ODM leaders so that we could chart the way forward but he has ignored us. But in his wisdom, Kenyatta has spoken to me and asked for my support and that is why I am switching camps, Gesami said.
Saying he made the move to decamp to Jubilee after conducting wide consultations among his supporters, Gesami asked all residents of Nyamira County to vote for Kenyatta on October 26.
