Former Kenyan president Mwai Kibaki has been flown to South Africa for specialised treatment after falling ill on Sunday.
The 84-year-old, who was president from 2003 until 2013, was rushed to hospital here Saturday night after he developed complications reportedly linked to an accident he was involved in more than a decade ago.
In a 2002 car accident, Kibaki suffered neck injuries and a fractured ankle during a campaign rally.
He was sworn in as President in January 2003 while still in a wheelchair.
Kibaki’s doctor, Dan Gikonyo, did not disclose the medical reasons for flying him to South Africa.
The former president’s wife, Lucy Kibaki, died in April this year after a long illness.
