Police in Chebunyo Police Post of Bomet County are holding a 22 year old man who allegedly killed his former school mate in his house.
Chepalungu OCPD Mr. Patrick Musyimi said the assailant reportedly hacked to death an 18 year old female student of a secondary school in Bomet on Monday night in what he described as a crime of passion.
The OCPD further said the man and the school girl allegedly disagreed over love issues.
The girl, a form four student and a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate of Mengwet Mixed secondary school was stabbed to death by his former lover at Kiplombe Village of Chepalungu Sub County.
Makimeny location Chief Mr. Francis Mwei said that the girl who was out of school for the weeklong half term holidays met her death near the home of her former boyfriend.
The chief said that reports reaching him indicate that the killer is said to have invited the former girlfriend to his home.
The chief said that after staying in his homestead for some time they picked a quarrel and the girl ran away from the home.
Reports indicate that the quarrel originated from accusations from the assailant that the deceased was cheating on him and had another boyfriend at the school.
Mr. Mwei said that the girl was stabbed more than 13 times by the suspect and her body was mutilated beyond recognition.
The girl’s body was discovered by a villager at the scene who raised the alarm and the public responded before informing the chief who also informed the police.
The chief says the assailant completed form four at the same school last year and is believed to have had a love affair with the deceased.
The public and the administrators are said to have arrested the suspect and handed him over to the police.
Mr. Mwei says when the assailant was asked why he had committed the heinous act, he was non-committal.
The body was taken to the Tenwek mission hospital’s mortuary awaiting postmortem.
