The Nyando MP, Fred Outa has told Governor Jack Ranguma he has no chance of clinching the Kisumu gubernatorial seat because the position was firmly in the grip of the Orange Democratic Movement party.
Outa, who is also the Kisumu ODM party’s senatorial candidate claimed that ODM would sweep all the key seats in the county on account of the broad based support it enjoyed among the locals.
This is after the MP accused the governor of failing to spur economic progress in the county and killing hopes that residents had rekindled at the onset of devolution.
Raila Odinga is the father of devolution in this country yet a comparison of how other devolved units have fared on the development front vis-a vis the same in Kisumu leaves a sour taste in the mouth, said Outa.
The MP spoke on Monday while addressing ODM grassroots representatives from Nyando constituency at the Ahero Multi-purpose Training Centre where the ODM luminaries had pitched camp to drum up support for the party’s candidates.
He informed the party loyalist that their support for the National presidential candidate, Raila Odinga would amount to naught if they do not elect ODM candidates in the August 8 polls.
Surmounting the tide of the tyranny of numbers on the floor of the August house is no mean task and that is why you have heard our party general Raila plead with you on several occasions not to send him to the warfront minus the foot soldiers, Outa said.
He pointed out that ODM party required elected representatives to champion the implementation of its development agenda once it ascends to power.
The Independent candidates owe allegiance to no single party, so tell me, how then will you hold them accountable or get them to tow the line on any crucial party agenda? posed Outa.
He further exuded confidence that Kisumu ODM brigade would trounce the independent candidates in the forthcoming elections and declared, Prof. Nyong’o the next governor of Kisumu.
He disclosed there was massive economic reforms lined up for the county if the ODM lieutenants assumed the reins of power after the August polls.
Outa was flanked by Kisumu’s ODM party Woman Rep. Candidate, Ms. Roza Buyu and a host of Members of County Assembly hopefuls among other party luminaries.
Buyu urged the residents to protect the honour bestowed on Raila by the NASA coalition partners whom she noted sacrificed a lot by agreeing to shelve their presidential ambitions and crown the ODM leader as the NASA flag bearer.
The leaders had earlier scoffed at calls by National Assembly majority leader, Aden Duale that Raila be arrested over alleged inflammatory remarks he made bordering on land ownership during a recent rally in Kajiado County.
They defended Raila, saying that the NASA flag bearer was just drawing attention on the need to address the historical land injustices that were highlighted by the Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission report.
