Residents of Sereton village in Tekibon location of Baringo Central Sub County are reeling in shock after a father of seven hacked to death his pregnant wife and later hanged himself.
The man identified as Paul Rotich is alleged to have slashed Rebecca Tuitoek in the neck using a sharp panga killing her on the spot.
Confirming the Monday 4.30 pm incident to KNA on telephone, area assistant chief David Chepyator said that after realizing the wife had actually died, the assailant disappeared into a nearby thicket where he stayed until 10pm when he decided to hang himself using a rope.
Mr Chepyator said when traumatised villagers searched the bushes this morning in a bid to apprehend the man they were shocked to find him hanging on a tree.
The chief said the motive behind the brutal killing of the pregnant woman has not been established though he hastened to add that the two have been quarreling always.
Rotich aged 35 years, the chief said, was not drunk at the time of committing the heinous act.
At the time of going to press the bodies of the couple were being moved to Kabarnet County Referral Hospital mortuary by the police.
