A family in Ndandani, Mwala Sub-county of Machakos County is seeking compensation after the death of their daughter following a snake bite last Friday.
The eight-year-old standard three pupil was bitten while playing in school with her friends.
Gregory Nzwili, the girl’s father, appealed to Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) to compensate the family for their loss and help in burial arrangements for the girl.
My daughter was bitten in the hand on Wednesday at the school’s workshop as she played with her friends, said Mr. Nzwili
He said that officers from KWS are yet to visit the area over the issue.
According to Nzwili, he expects the officers to take responsibility and give a way forward on compensation and teach people on how to co-exist with poisonous snakes.
The girl was rushed to Mwala Level Four Hospital for first aid and then referred to Machakos level Five Hospital for further treatment.
The victim’s parents claimed the Machakos Hospital did not attend to their case with the seriousness it deserved thus leading to the death of their daughter.
The girl died on the way back to the hospital on Friday.
The body of the deceased is at the Machakos Level Five mortuary.
