Parents to children with disabilities should ensure the children access education like other learners.
The Nyahururu Sub County Deputy Commissioner, Ms. Flora Mworoa warned parents against hiding such children denying them national and county government services.
Speaking on Tuesday at her Nyahururu office when she distributed equipment donated by the National Fund for the Disabled to empower People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs), Mworoa said the government prioritizes children with disabilities when it comes to bursary allocations.
She said their condition should not deter them from achieving their dreams and being successful in life.
Mworoa discouraged PLWDS against begging but to instead work with the equipment donated to them to empower themselves.
Speaking during the same occasion, National Fund for the Disabled Assistant Programme Manager, Isaac Alyah urged PLWDS to register with the fund to benefit from it.
Alyah said one is issued with a card to enable faster access to government services.
Having this card will be of much benefit since when you visit health facilities, you will be given the first priority. You are also exempted from paying taxes to both National and County governments, he said.
The manager further said that PLWDs contribute Sh.250 monthly for NHIF services unlike ordinary citizens who paid Sh.500.
