The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has been accused of ordering arrest of Kandara MP, Alice Wahome without doing thorough investigations.
The Murang’a Senator, Irungu Kang’ata has said the MP did nothing wrong and there is no need to order her arrest.
He argued that the DPP is acting out of pressure from supporters of NASA who are demanding for arrest of the MP.
Speaking at Mumbi Catholic Church in Murang’a on Sunday, Kang’ata wondered why the DPP was biased, saying many leaders from the opposition side had committed various crimes and no one has ordered their arrest.
We have witnessed Dagoretti North MP, Simba Arati fueling chaos which has left some people dead and property worth millions of shillings destroyed in Kawangware and no one is investigating him, claimed Kang’ata.
Wahome, the senator said, was irked to find the results entered were wrong and that she was demanding for explanation and correction before submitting the presidential results.
He said the incident between Wahome and the returning officer was taken out of context.
The MP was reacting after finding there was a wrong entry of results where votes meant for President Kenyatta were given to Japheth Kavinga Kaluyu, he said.
On Saturday, the Kandara MP was caught in camera roughing up the area Returning Officer, Martin Malonza claiming he had submitted results without her input.
The IEBC officer had refused to correct the entry of 410 votes of Kiiri polling station meant for President Kenyatta which were wrongly awarded to Kaluyu.
Kang’ata said the MP was only demanding for correction of the error, saying the returning officer was rude.
He said the DPP should root for the reason behind the scuffle before ordering arrest of the legislator.
The MP was not fighting to have the results altered as many people are purporting but to have an error that had been committed by a presiding officer, he added.
Kang’ata said he will defend the legislator with zeal and that he will offer her legal services if she is arrested and prosecuted.
