EXCESSIVE consumption of soft drinks can lead to lethal diseases, a medic in Kiambu District Hospital has said.
Speaking to KNA in her office yesterday, nutritionist Grace Kihaki said the drinks cause obesity, Type 2 diabetes and cavities.
She said the drinks have low nutrient levels and high concentrations of simple carbohydrates and sugars.
Many people, especially those in formal employment, take soft drinks during lunch breaks, the medic said.
She said others substitute meals with soft drinks, unaware that such habits expose them to lifestyle diseases.
Kihaki said soft drinks reduce energy intake, leaving the body fatigued and vulnerable to disease.
