Investigations into the alleged embezzlement of Eurobond funds are complete.
The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Keriako Tobiko on Wednesday said the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) wrote to him on Tuesday last week confirming that the investigations are complete and will submit the file on Friday after it is reviewed by the Commission’s evidence analysts.
Tobiko had written to the Commission and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) a day before requesting them to confirm the status of Eurobond investigations and when they expect to complete and submit the file to him for appropriate action.
In the beginning of last month, Tobiko directed EACC and DCI to carry out joint investigations on Eurobond fraud allegations and submit file within 10 days.
The two institutions were not able to meet the deadline.
The directive by Tobiko for investigations of Eurobond cash, followed claims by the opposition led ODM leader, Raila Odinga that Shs.100 million of the Shs. 250 million Eurobond cannot be accounted for.
The government has maintained that no funds have been lost as the proceeds of the Sovereign Bond were used to fund part of the development budget for the financial years 2013/14 and 2014/15.
