Domestic quarrel turns tragic in Nyeri

The sleepy Kwa Ndekeo area in Karima location, Othaya, Nyeri is in shock and grief , after a middle-aged man allegedly killed his wife on Sunday night before taking his own life by hanging.

According to neighbours, Waikwa Ndekeo, who is in his 50’s, descended upon his wife Gathoni Waikwa with a machete in the wee hours of the night, though no one heard of any commotion.

The lifeless bodies of the couple that was yet to be collected by 10 am today lay at the scene of the incident as villagers milled around the homestead to witness the horrific scene.

Gathoni’s body which had multiple deep cuts all over laid on the ground of their bedroom in a pool of blood with that of her husband hanging from the rooftop.

The bodies are said to have been discovered after their son who is a student at Kiamuya Secondary School came knocking at her parents’ house to take breakfast before leaving for school.

After getting no response, the son is said to have called his grandmother, where on peeping through the bedroom window that had been left open, saw the bodies of the two.

It was then that the duo raised alarm attracting the attention of members of public who filled the homestead to witness the incident as they discussed the happenings in low tones.

It is alleged that the couple has been having domestic problems for long where at one point the wife returned to her parents’ home to quell the heat.

She is said to have returned to her matrimonial home two weeks ago after reconciliation.

Area OCPD, Sarah Koki, could not be reached for comment as she is said to have travelled out on an official assignment.

The area has been on the news for all the wrong reasons as a week ago, residents held demonstrations over the murder of a man whose body was found dumped in a cattle dip.

The bodies of the two were taken to neighbouring Mkurwe-ini Hospital Mortuary.
