A poor family in Luanda, Vihiga County has appealed to well-wishers for financial help to enable them meet medical expenses for their one week infant suffering from deformed legs and a growth on the back.
The mother, Davine Oyondi (33) from Emuli village, told Kenya News Agency in Kisumu that she was advised by doctors at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral (JOOTR) hospital to take the baby for specialised treatment at AIC Kijabe Hospital, Nairobi but due to financial constraints, they were yet to do so.
She said she delivered the baby, Floice Oyiera in her house on June 1, 2017 and when she realized her sorry state, she rushed her to JOOTR hospital where medics demanded Sh.5, 000 part payment before they could attend to her.
When she failed to pay the money they advised her to seek medication at AIC Kijabe.
When she visited KNA offices on Friday, the baby, who cried persistently, had both legs heavily bandaged and plastered.
The distraught mother, who was accompanied by her neighbour, Norah Saka said her husband, Nahashon Ndenga, 41, was also jobless and appealed to well wishers to render a helping hand promptly before it was too late.
