At least eight people died Wednesday night during an accident at Mwariki C estate, along the Nakuru-Elementaita road.
Seven passengers died on the spot, while one more died while undergoing treatment at the Nakuru Level five hospital.
The hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr. Joseph Mburu told the press that 21 people were involved in the road accident that occurred at around 7.30 p.m.,Wwednesday as they were returning from a burial in Kiptangwany.
Dr. Mburu said that five of the victims were pronounced dead on arrival at Nakuru level five hospital while two more were taken to the Nakuru county government mortuary.
He further added that eight patients were admitted at the facility and are still undergoing treatment, while four were treated and discharged.
Molo Group Matatu rolled severally after its front left tyre burst throwing most of the passengers into a nearby maize plantation.
Curious residents of the area Thursday milled around the wreckage of the fourteen seater Matatu at the Elementaita police station as they came to terms with the tragic news.
Some of the victims’ belongings that included shoes, headscarfs and lessos were still inside the vehicle, whose entire roof was ripped off on impact.
