Residents of Kyamatula in Mwala, Machakos County risk experiencing acute water shortage after Kwa-Ndoo dam was destroyed by floods following heavy rains.
The residents, led by Musau Ngovi, said for now they would have to rely on rain water after the dam constructed by Child Fund an NGO collapsed. But after the rains are over, we will have to walk long distances in search of this precious commodity, he added.
They therefore appealed to Machakos County Government to move with haste and partner with the NGO to rehabilitate the dam.
The rain is not heavy for now. The government should hasten and restore the dam so that when the rain falls again, water will be harvested, said Ngovi.
Officers from the Child Fund who toured the dam recently said it would take time to reconstruct.
