Last year, cyber crime increased by more than 100 per cent, the government said on Wednesday.
This is attributed to lack of awareness, poor detection and insufficient capacity to respond to the cyber attacks, Information Communication and Technology PS Joseph Tiampati said.
“Last year alone, we experienced some of the most significant cyber attacks in the country’s history. Hackers targeted key government institutions’ websites, including the military,” he said.
Tiampati spoke during the Information Systems Audit and Control Association conference at the Whitesands Hotel, Mombasa.
He said the Kenya Information Communication Act has been enacted to fight cyber crime.
