The High Court has cancelled the bail terms of Hillary Okeyo, a secondary school teacher accused of defiling a 15-year-old school girl.

Justice Ngenye Macharia said Okeyo, a teacher at Highridge Secondary School, could interfere with the witnesses who are students at the school and whom she described as “fragile”.

DPP Keriako Tobiko had challenged the decision to release Okeyo on bail, arguing the suspect may “prejudice his security as the charges have sparked public outrage”.

Chief Magistrate Daniel Ogembo declined the request, saying the prosecution did not produce compelling reasons to make him deny the accused bond.

Okeyo was arrested on suspicion of defiling the girl, a Form One student at Highridge Girls Secondary School in Nairobi, on October 7.

He denied the charges and refuted indecently touching her, amid claims the school authorities allegedly tried to sweep the case under the carpet.

The case will be heard on November 24.
