A couple was on Friday found murdered in their house at Lumino village,Likuyani Sub County, Kakamega County.
The bodies of Henry Munywu and his wife Zipporah Wangoi had cuts on various parts, and were found in their house which was locked from outside.
The duo had been reported missing since Monday.
According to the son of the deceased Peter Mburu, he called a friend asking him to check on his parents after failing to reach to his mother on phone since Tuesday morning.
The boda boda operator became suspicious after he found the compound deserted with domesticated animals in the shed, and alerted area community policing Officer Mr. Joseph Njoroge Kariuki, who visited the scene.
After peeping through the window, he saw chairs and other furniture turned upside down, and informed neighbours. He forced the door open, and found furniture scattered in the house.
Njoroge told KNA that when they moved to the second room, they found the body of 67-year-old Mzee Mwangi covered with several mattresses and hands tied at the back using a piece of cloth.
First when we found the wife’s body, we thought the old man had murdered her and fled, until we found his body, said Mwangi who later informed the police.
Neighbours said the doors had remained closed since Monday morning and there had been no movement in the compound after a lorry was seen leaving the compound with several bags of maize.
Confirming the incident, Likuyani location Chief Mr. Jahonga Charles Banda said preliminary investigations indicate that the couple was killed by businessmen who had called on them to buy maize.
He said after loading sixty bags of maize on their lorry, the businessmen decided to kill the couple, took other household property of unknown value, before they locked the house using a padlock and drove away.
Chief Banda has appealed to anybody who has information about the incident to volunteer to the police to help arrest the suspects.
The two bodies were taken to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, Eldoret, and police have launched investigations into the incident.
