A couple in Kirinyaga County spent the third day in police custody following the disappearance of their eight month old infant.
The couple from Mururi market was reported to have quarreled a week ago leading to an estranged relationship.
On Monday, last week, the woman decided to go to her parents’ home and left the infant under the care of its father.
John Murenga, an immediate neighbor of the couple recalled how at about 7 pm that Monday, the husband came into the residential plot crying wolf that the baby boy had disappeared.
On interrogating the father, Murenga learnt that the child was allegedly left alone outside the house as the parent went to answer a call of nature.
As an immediate neighbor, I have been hearing and witnessing frequent quarrels between the two that led to the fleeing of the wife last week,” Murenga said.
The father could not, however, give an acceptable explanation on the circumstances that led to the disappearance of the child.
The matter was later reported to the police, who on Friday arrested the couple for questioning leading to their arrest.
police demolished a public toilet at the market where the father claimed he had dumped the child but found nothing.
The police also made several other searches in all the pit latrines in the market with the assistance from the Kirinyaga County Fire Fighting Service personnel and called it off in the afternoon.
The law enforcers said they will continue to keep in custody the two suspects until they show where the baby’s body was after suspecting that they murdered the boy.
