County Launches Its Census Committee

The Migori County Commissioner (CC), Joseph Rotich has called on those appointed to sit in the county census committee to uphold their best integrity and serve the committee with dedication to register good results.

He told the 15-member team to go out of their way to give the best results in whatever assignment they will be offered to do from now up to the end of the excise.

The 2019 Kenya Population and Housing Census is scheduled for August this year and preparations towards its success has kicked off in earnest as from this month.

It is an exercise whose result assists the government to plan and budget for programmes and projects geared towards developing the population and the country in general.

Rotich pointed out that the exercise was an important undertaking that comes once after every ten years and all Kenyans must embrace it at all cost.

It is a responsibility of every Kenyan and especially government officers to ensure that the exercise is done to its best in order to realize its objectives, he said when he officially inaugurated the committee today at the IFAD Hall in Migori Town.

Members for the county committee, include the County Commissioner as the Chair person and County Statistic Officer as Secretary. Other members are Supply Chain Officer, County Social and Gender Development Officer, County Police Commander, County Information Officer and County Intelligence Officer among others.

The committee will also cascade to the Sub-County level where the Deputy County Commissioner will chair the lower committee.

The launch was witnessed by Zachary Ochola who has been seconded as the County Census Coordinator from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics headquarters in Nairobi.

Ochola said it will require great discipline, team work and respect from every member undersigned duties in order to make the exercise a success.

We will be required to be very honest when it comes to financial management on the part of procurement and doing all the other payments regarding to the whole exercise, he told members.

He said all must also be strictly guided by timelines put on every assignment in order not to delay in performing the scheduled duties.
