A County Inter-agency Committee has been formed in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County in a move aimed at stopping what has been termed as growing concern over illicit alcohol consumption.
The committee Chaired by Governor, Jackson Mandago has raised concerns over manufacture, distribution and use of second generation alcohol.
Mandago said the alcohol menace was once again a thriving business to some people who were believed to source alcohol packed in plastic sachets from neighbouring countries.
It’s through this inter-agency front that we’ll enforce strict adherence to the County Alcoholic Drinks Control Act (2014).
I am determined to ensure that Uasin Gishu is free from alcohol and other abused substances. We will allow only traders who have complied with the law to do business in alcohol, Mandago said.
The Uasin Gishu County Commissioner, Abdi Hassan echoed the Governors sentiments and warned of tough action against those found culpable.
He said agencies will work with the County government to eradicate illicit brews from the area.
