The Siaya county government will demolish illegal structures erected on road reserves, area Governor, Cornel Rasanga has said.
Rasanga said already, his administration has issued demolition notices to traders with buildings on road reserves to remove them before the county government moves in.
Speaking at the Siaya Jua Kali sheds while disbursing payment to artisans who were awarded tenders by the county government, the governor at the same time warned land grabbers, saying that his office will recover all public lands issued illegally to individuals.
The Governor said Siaya, and other urban areas within the county must develop as planned by the experts, hence the need to remove illegal structures and recovery of grabbed land.
Among the grabbed land, said Rasanga, was one set aside for Jua Kali sheds across the county.
He said the sector played a crucial role in the economy, hence the need to defend land and other key infrastructure meant for its development.
During the occasion, the governor disbursed cheques worth Sh. 17.5 million.
