The tourism sector in Kwale County has received a major boost after Diani Beach Resort was declared Africa’s leading beach destination at the World Travel Awards 2017 for the fourth year in a row.
Kwale Governor, Salim Mvurya and tourism players celebrated the win, saying it offers great opportunity for a turnaround in the county’s tourism fortunes.
Diani Beach scooped the Award during the Gala ceremony in Kigali, Rwanda, last week. The 10km-long white sand beach, is a major and popular resort in South Coast.
Mr. Mvurya said he was delighted that the Beach had been crowned as one of the best in the continent for four consecutive years.
He attributed the achievement to high standards of environmental management and the local people’s hospitality.
We will continue working with hoteliers and residents to protect the beach environment to ensure it maintains its pristine and seductive nature, he said.
He further said the County will continue with its aggressive marketing locally and abroad to attract more local and international tourists to the region.
At the same time, five-star Leopard Beach Resort and Spa in Diani clinched three awards after it was voted Africa’s leading Family Resort for the seventh time, while in the country’s category as Kenya’s leading beach resort.
The victory was applauded by the management and staff led by the Resident Manager, Mr. Francis Marube.
Mr. Marube said the recognition will go a long way in attracting more guests to the facility.
The achievement is as a result of dedicated and hardworking staff and the support of esteemed customers, he said.
