Volunteers have started counselling alcohol addicts in Murang’a South subcounty.
The team of counsellors and residents said they want the addicts to rebuild their lives and be integrated back into society.
Speaking at Kaharati Market on Saturday, counsellor Anthony Chege said many youth are silently suffering from withdrawal symptoms but are afraid to get treatment.
Chege said they will help the addicts find jobs as rehabilitating them without offering them a source of livelihood will make them fall back into alcoholism.
Anti-alcohol campaigner Rose Mumbi said residents should learn better ways of handling recovering addicts and supporting them.
“The government should start a programme to teach addicts homemade detoxification,” Mumbi said.
