Company Stopped From Selling Durex Condoms

A judge has stopped a company from selling condoms over an alleged infringement of trademark for a UK company. Justice Francis Gikonyo stopped Metro Pharmaceutical from selling Durex products, owned by LRC Ltd.

He said the UK company, through lawyer Alex Masika, convinced him to issue the orders restraining the sale of the products. Gikonyo said the company has demonstrated that Durex products are manufactured and sold by LRC Products Ltd, which is a sister company of Reckitt Benckiser Services Kenya Ltd.

LRC accused its rival of importing the products for sale in Nakuru, Nairobi, Thika and other major towns without their consent. The firm said it is the duly registered trademark owner of Durex products. The case will be heard on July 27.
