Clinical officers in Vihiga County staged a peaceful demonstration on Monday protesting against alleged highhandedness by the county executive for health.
The clinical officers who stormed the county government headquarters in Mbale town sought audience with area Governor, Moses Akaranga.
They accused County Health Executive, Mrs Zilpah Kageha, of discrimination and constantly flouting rules and regulations governing their profession.
Led by their chairperson, Mr. Kennedy Ochogia, the protestors claimed the health minister had unilaterally been transferring and demoting some of them without consulting relevant technical authorities.
Last year, after sharing our concerns with the governor, he promised to ensure proper procedures are followed in promotion, transfer or demotion of clinical officers, Ochogia told members of the press.
Ochogia alleged, the health executive has continued to flout some of the resolutions made during the meeting between the governor and the clinical officers in 2016 citing transfers and demotions of their colleagues.
The clinicians’ chairperson further revealed that several officers had
been demoted under unclear circumstances and threatened to down tools and seek legal redress
in event the governor failed to resolve their grievances.
Akaranga managed to calm the clinicians and promised to convene a meeting involving their leaders and the health executive assuring them everything will be alright
