Clergy threatens to boycott 2022 polls

The Anglican Churches of Southern Nyanza have threatened to mobilize voters to boycott 2022 general polls should Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) continue to impose leaders on them.

The Diocesan Bishop, James Ochiel said they will enlighten voters to reject leaders who may be imposed on them as candidates by ODM or boycott the elections just as NASA did in October 26 last year’s repeat presidential polls.

Bishop Ochiel regretted that leaders elected on ODM ticket in the region are not delivering to the electorate as required and instead only pledge their loyalty to their party leader and cartels in the party system.

Addressing the press at ACK offices in Homa-Bay Town, the clergy said the current ODM leaders were elected due to respect they have on ODM party leader Raila Odinga who asked them to vote for such alleged incompetent leaders.

Ochiel maintained that he will not relent on criticizing ODM party for imposing nonperforming leaders on electorates at the expense of development.

He accused the County governors of failing to utilize billions of shillings they received from the National government in initiating development projects in the region.

The clergy stated that they will rally their followers to vote for independent individuals who can serve the interest of the public instead of politicians of empty rhetoric’s and sycophants.
