City taxi driver found beaten, stabbed to death in Kiambu

A city taxi driver has been found stabbed dead in Kiambu county a day after he left Nairobi with a client.

Ezekiel Kanyi picked the unknown client at Tom Mboya Street on Monday night, Kikuyu police boss Birgen Kiptoo told journalists yesterday.

He was found murdered in his taxi in Gitaru on Tuesday evening.

Residents reported seeing the car abandoned with its headlights on 500 metres from Gitaru stage.

“We thought the car had broken down and the driver had left it, but in the morning, the lights were fading,” boda boda operator Johnson Wainaina said.

“We called the police in the evening, when we realised the owner or whoever had left it was not returning to pick it.”

Kiptoo said police went to investigate and discovered Kanyi’s body in the back seat.

“He had a deep wound, having been stabbed with a very sharp object in the chest,” Kiptoo said. Kanyi also appeared to have been beaten, the police boss said.

Police established he had been hired at 8pm near Jades Collection. The customer met Kanyi chatting with his brother Moses Kariuki.

Kanyi asked Kariuki not to leave town before he came back so they could finish their discussion. However, Kariuki left for home at around 9pm.
