About 35 orphaned and vulnerable children are living under the care of a Pastor in Khalaba, Matungu Sub-County and are in dire need of assistance.
The Children aged between nine months and 16 years rely on the Pastor of Ambassador Encounter Ministries, for their basic needs of food, shelter and clothing and require assistance to enable them lead a normal life and attend school.
The Pastor of the Church, Josephat Sawa said that the children came under his care following the demise of their parents who were members of his congregation at different times in life and that some of them were abandoned and sought for assistance from the church.
He said that he has been making all efforts to assist the children but requires assistance from well wishers to enable him give enough support to the children who live in his home.
Members of the Area Advisory Council (AAC) led by the Mumias Sub-County Children’s Officer (SCCO), Dorcas Wakasa visited the home and established that the children were in dire need of assistance as they were sharing the limited facilities that the pastor is able to offer them in his home.
The SCCO asked the pastor to report to the office and get advice on how to establish a children’s home so as to have the children receive the proper support.
She asked the Pastor who lives in the home with his family of five children and his wife to find ways of conducting the next of kin of the children with a view of taking them to stay with their relatives.
Ms. Wakasa told the pastor to do a life history of each of the children to enable the office to intervene and either transfer them to established children’s homes or adoption.
