The government will develop the capacity of the National Communications Secretariat (NCS) to empower the agency to meet its mandate of providing advisory and policy formulation in the telecommunications sector.
Information Communication and Technology Cabinet Secretary (CS), Mr. Joe Mucheru said the Secretariat play an important role in promoting growth in the telecommunications sector by developing policy and regulatory framework to guide the sector.
Mucheru made the remarks on Wednesday during a tour of the Secretariat’s offices at Transcom House in Nairobi.
He urged the Secretariat to engage stakeholders and the public to reach a consensus in formulating policies for the industry.
The Communications Secretariat CEO, Mr. Charles Ngesa said the organization was in the process of implementing a new strategic plan that involves branding and developing an appropriate infrastructure of the Secretariat to enhance its service delivery.
The National Communications Secretariat is tasked with the mandate of ensuring effective use of all telecommunication resources which include management of radio spectrums by the government in manner that is beneficial to the public.
The Secretariat also carries out ICT policy research and analysis, formulates policies and gives recommendations which aim to advance strategic interests of the government.
The CS was accompanied by Principal Secretaries, Sammy Itemere (Broadcasting and Telecommunications) and Victor Kyalo (Information Communication and Technology).
